2020 Has A Vision! - Graduation.......Saturday, May 16, 2020!!!!
We had our second meeting of Sophomore year at LaMesa on Tuesday, November 7th. Thanks to all the parents who were able to attend. We had a great discussion about fundraisers and events for the upcoming year. The minutes from the meeting are attached below. Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 6th at 6 p.m., location TBD. Hope to see you there!
Kelly Faulk, Gifts/Prizes Chair; Christine Bachtel, Co-Treasurer; Natasha Dawson, Spiritwear Coordinator; Carrie Taylor, Raffle Coordinator; Keri Gauger, Co-Chairman; and Gina Redwine, Co-Chairman
Secretary: Kelsey Rook, Sophomore Class Sponsor, created a Google doc for us and posted it to all the sophomore’s accounts. The document asks for the student’s name, parent’s name, phone and email address. As each student fills out the form, the form updates and is sent to the secretary at our gmail account. We will build our email/contact data base from this doc.
*OpGrad Participation Contest. Suggested by Karen Jessup - Give sign-up forms to our kids and have them recruit their classmates in order to build our email/contact data base. The three top ‘recruiters’ receive cash prizes. The form will be uploaded to the Lansing Operation Graduation website for downloading.
Treasurer: We made $66.00 at the Holiday Market with our Guessing Jars. Our current balance is $1,486.46.
Fundraising: Ideas discussed:
* Raffle for the Endzone. Sell raffle tickets for students to win a spot on the couch in the endzone during football games. This idea was tabled until senior year so as not to compete with the current senior class OpGrad fundraising in the school.
*Lion T-shirt Quilt Raffle. Collect new and vintage Lion t-shirts to create a quilt. OpGrad would sell raffle tickets at spring sports events, the Fine Arts Fair and Jazz-a-Que. The group decided to go with this fundraiser. We are now taking donations of new and old t-shirts with all the different Lion head logos. Collection site is Gina Redwine’s house.
Spiritwear: We made $105.25 on the first t-shirt order. Tasha will contact the t-shirt store and see if they can come up with a graphic-type 2020 shirt to make available, along with the current 2020 shirt, on the vendor’s website. We will ask for a choice of colors – black, grey and pink – so the kids and parents have a wider choice. Tasha will also ask for them to offer matching sweat pants. Gina will check with Mr. Cackler to see if he can create a QR Code that we can give to the kids to scan with their iPads so the kids can see their options and that will take them directly to the vendor’s website.
Baccalaureate Chair: Carla Wiegers volunteered to be our Baccalaureate Chairman.
Open positions: We are still in need of a Fundraising Coordinator and Volunteer Coordinator to sit on the committee. Please contact us if you are interested.
Tuesday, March 6th, 6 PM. Location TBD.
We have the bulk of our amazing committee seated, but we still need some motivated parents to step up to fill two key positions immediately this year. Critical to our success over the next three years are a Fundraising Coordinator and Volunteer Coordinator. We are planning to hold one fundraiser each semester through sophomore and junior years (that will not conflict with the current running senior OpGrad class), as well as selling our own class sportswear. In order to do that successfully, we need a Fundraising Coordinator to set up the events and a Volunteer Coordinator to get the folks there! We are also looking for Activity Contact Parents to help get the word out to parents and to build our email data base (e.g. a Choir parent to be the liaison between OpGrad and the sophomore choir parents, etc.). If you are interested in any of these positions, or know of someone who might be, please contact either Keri Gauger, email@example.com or Gina Redwine, JGRedwine@sbcglobal.net ASAP!

Our next fundraiser will be a Lion T-shirt Quilt Raffle. We are currently taking donations of new and vintage Lansing t-shirts with the old and the new Lion logo. Collection site is Gina Redwine's house, 131 Meadow Court, in Lansing. We will raffle the quilt in late spring.
